CHICAGO--Cold-heading quality wire producer BCS Industries LLC, Memphis, Tenn, has agrred to purchase the carbon cold-heading wire product line of Ugitech USA, a subsidiary of Schmolz+Bickenbach AG, Dusseldorf, Germany for an undisclosed price. Joe Higdon, chief manager and a principal of the company, said his company has continued to remain profitable in the recession and would likely grow more quickly in Memphis as a result of the acquisition.

Roosevelt Liggins worked 20 years for the Laclede Steel Co. plant before it closed in the summer of 1998. But Liggins, 52, was able to remain in the steel industry after former Laclede manager Joe Higdon bought the plant and reopened it as part of Bluff City Steel LLC. Higdon has seen steady growth in Bluff City, which processes steel rods for the bolt and fastener industry.
